Nestled along the Delaware River is one of the oldest counties in New Jersey– Burlington County. Tucked between Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore, it offers a mix of colonial history, scenic beauty, and small-town charm. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a different experience, Burlington has some hidden gems worth exploring.

First stop: Historic Burlington

Start the morning with a walk around downtown Burlington. First, stop by Evermore Coffee Roasters and grab a light breakfast. Then, take that latte to go and head down High Street and pass by the Grant House, once home to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. Stop by the Burlington County Historical Society, where you can also explore some Underground Railroad history.

After, get lost in some of the local antique stores, like the Historic Burlington Antiques Emporium, which offers everything from vintage decor to handmade jewelry from local sellers. 

The Delaware River

For lunch, head down to the Delaware River to Cooper’s Riverview. This waterfront restaurant offers live music and outdoor seating– perfect for a beautiful spring or summer day.

After lunch, head over to Specca Farms in Bordentown. Grab a bag or a basket and spend an hour picking your own fruits or vegetables. For the spring harvest, the farm has everything from strawberries to asparagus.

For dinner, make your way over to Blue Claw Crab Eatery. This BYOB restaurant is a local favorite. From soft shell crab to hush puppies to Cajun shrimp deviled eggs, it’s a seafood lover’s dream.

Lastly, end the day at Iron Plow Vineyards, a boutique farm winery that often hosts live music with fire pits outside in the warmer months. Pack a blanket and picnic in the grass or sit on the back deck. It’s the perfect way to end a day exploring Burlington County.
